School board chief loses re-election bid

CARROLLTON — Daniel Vest appears to have defeated Beat 3 incumbent Carroll County School Board President Ben Shute in the only hotly contested race in Carroll County.

After absentee ballots were counted by hand, Tuesday’s totals were 419 for Vest, 406 for Shute and 400 for Marvin Dwayne Coward.

Marcy believes he can beat Thompson

CARROLLTON — Republican Bill Marcy said Thursday night that he believes it is possible to defeat Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson.

It can be done if there is a large Republican turnout in the 2nd Congressional District and if 20 percent of black voters choose Marcy, he said.
