J.Z. George principal leaving after 'best year ever'

CARROLLTON -— As James Allen Gant leaves J.Z. George High School to retire from public schools, he said his goal is to always leave a place at least as good as it was when he arrived, and hopefully better.

He feels he has achieved that goal at George.

Gant is moving to the headmaster’s position at Winona Christian School.

Carroll man pleads guilty to manslaughter

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
