Fired DUI officer may still testify

Although the Greenwood Police Department’s former DUI coordinator, Chris McDonald, has been fired, he could still be called to testify in DUI cases, attorneys say.

McDonald is under investigation by state and local authorities. Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore has declined to say why McDonald is being investigated.

Supervisors extend nursing home lease

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to renew the lease of Golden Age Nursing Home for another 20 years.

The new lease will not take effect until 2018, when the current one expires, and will extend Golden Age’s contract with the county until 2038.

Common Core foes speak

Speaking to a mostly empty auditorium in Greenwood Sunday, two ultraconservative state senators expressed their opposition to Mississippi’s new education standards.

The meeting, organized by Concerned Citizens Against Common Core and led by Greenwood resident Roxanne Hall, drew fewer than 20 people to the Leflore County Civic Center.

Police firing DUI officer

Greenwood police officer and DUI coordinator Chris McDonald is under investigation by state and local authorities.

Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore said Saturday that McDonald has been suspended without pay since Tuesday, when the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office notified the Police Department of the investigation.
