Over 500 people filled the Leflore County Civic Center March 14 for the Cruger-Tchula Academy Reunion.

The evening began with a fish fry supper catered by Long’s Catering of Belzoni. During the dinner a video program featuring every class that graduated from CTA was presented.

Momma goes meatless 1 meal per week

When planning meals for my family, I have always chosen my meat course and built the rest of my dishes around that selection.

I live in a house full of carnivorous men and a meal without some type of meat would really be frowned upon. I guess old habits die hard.

I feel very fortunate to have many friends and acquaintances.

Having never been one to meet a stranger, meeting and talking with people has not been a problem for me.

In fact, when my son was younger, he would tell me to walk straight ahead and not make eye contact with anyone because he was ready to get home.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
