The past few weeks have been packed with activities. I was a guest speaker for Mississippi State University’s Arts and Science Department’s end-of-the-year luncheon. The luncheon was held at an antebellum home in Starkville converted into a bed and breakfast and banquet venue.

On the outskirts of Belzoni there is a beautiful place called Wister Gardens, which consists of a lovely home and quaint lake complete with ducks, geese, swans and an absolutely gorgeous landscape. I have been quite familiar with Wister Gardens for the past 35 years.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
