Governors Day filled with memories, old friends

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Mexican culture with food

Today is Cinco de Mayo. It is the day we observe and celebrate Mexican heritage and pride. This holiday always falls on May 5. It commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the France-Mexican War in 1862. What is a minor holiday in Mexico has grown into a huge celebration in the United States.

Play, tour of home reveal history of lost love

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
