Family’s 47-year-old pet parrot lived a long, full life

It is not very often that you can make the statement that you have had a pet for 43 years. Well, we can in our family. Madacca, our blue-fronted Amazon parrot, passed away last week at the age of 47. She lived at my mother- and father-in-law’s home for 43 of those years.

Flemming Thanksgiving features food, family, memories

Thanksgiving is now a memory, and Christmas is right around the corner. I hope everyone had as nice a holiday as we did in the Flemming family. All of my husband’s siblings and their spouses were able to be here for the Thanksgiving week, and what a wonderful time we all enjoyed.

In the past couple of weeks, I have had the honor and the privilege to meet Laura Lee Lewis, Miss Mississippi 2016. Not only is she a beautiful young lady on the outside but on the inside as well. She represented our state in the Miss America pageant, where she placed fourth runner-up to Miss America.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
