Tailgating is a fall staple for many football fans

Well, football season has officially arrived. I have a fully extensive end-of-the-week football schedule. Thursday night is junior high, Friday night is high school, Saturday is reserved for the Bulldogs of Mississippi State and Sunday is for Dak and the Dallas Cowboys.

As a teacher, I quickly realized that children love animals. They like to read and learn about them in class. Whenever the subject of cats and dogs comes up, they all raise their hands with a story to share with the class. They always have a story to tell if the subject of snakes is in the picture. Children are fascinated with snakes.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
