Itta Bena cop arrested in family feud

An Itta Bena police officer has been arrested after allegedly getting involved in a dispute between her adult children and another family while she was off duty.

Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said the other party filed charges claiming Annie Buford Harris, 54, 207 Love St., Itta Bena, threatened them.

The fall edition of Leflore Illustrated is hitting the streets.

The quarterly magazine celebrates autumnal rituals, such as tailgating at college football games and making treats for the holidays.

The cover story is about real-life maids who participated in a documentary that will appear on the DVD of “The Help.”

3 candidates speak unopposed at ‘debate’

Rules for a debate Tuesday instructed candidates to be “courteous in language,” and all three present complied.

It probably helped that none of them had opponents who showed up at the Community League-sponsored event at the Leflore County Civic Center.

Until last week the billboard featured images of actor Morgan Freeman and bluesmen Robert Johnson and Honeyboy Edwards.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
