Teen hit by stray bullet

A 16-year-old wounded by a stray bullet fired during a dispute between others is recovering and should return home soon, Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said this morning.

Richard Taylor was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson following the Jan. 6 shooting at Carrollton Avenue and Avenue G.

Newest board members sworn in

The two newest members of the Greenwood School Board pledged their support to the district after being sworn in during a work session Wednesday.

Board Attorney Richard Oakes administered the oath of office to Bill Clay and Kathy Whicker at the central office.

Board members are paid $200 per month.

Attorney General Jim Hood says Wednesday he believes former Gov. Haley Barbour might have violated the state Constitution by pardoning some inmates who failed to give sufficient public notice that they were seeking clemency. Barbour on Tuesday gave clemency to more than 200 people.
