Local man’s clemency bid denied

On his way out as Mississippi’s governor, Haley Barbour pardoned nearly 200 convicts on Tuesday.

But the long list of those given reprieves didn’t include the name of Paul Murrell Stewart.

Stewart’s attorney, Hiram Eastland III of Greenwood, had petitioned Barbour for clemency on behalf of his former Pillow Academy classmate.
