The 640 runners who competed in the first Viking Half Marathon and 5K Saturday found Greenwood’s hospitality to be one of the highlights.

In post-race interviews, almost every half marathoner remarked about the number of spectators who came out to cheer along the route and at water stations.

Greenwood water rates to rise

The average Greenwood Utilities customer will begin paying 24 percent more for water in April as the utility is raising rates to replace aging wells and water tanks.

The Greenwood Utilities Commission approved the water rate increase effective April 12, according to a letter mailed to customers.

The next time you’re at a Double Quick/Church’s Chicken store, check and see which employees are more courteous, Chip Morgan says.

The executive vice president of Delta Council said he expects that 80 percent of the time the Double Quick employees will be better.
