High court denies bail for Smith

The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied Dr. Arnold Smith’s attempt to get bail.

A three-justice panel filed its one-page decision Thursday without giving any reasoning.

Errors may disqualify 6 of 7 candidates

Six of the seven candidates for the Leflore County Election Commission face disqualification because of paperwork errors, according to two recent Mississippi Attorney General’s opinions.

That means only one of the five positions on the commission would be filled starting in 2013.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
