Update: Producer OKs Bridge screening of ‘Booker’

The producer of “Booker’s Place” says he's fine with The Bridge screening the documentary today as long as it doesn't tout the showing as the Mississippi premiere.

David Zellerford, the New York-based producer, said this afternoon that a controversy about the screening was a misunderstanding.

Itta Bena man accused of pulling gun, making threat

Disagreements between two factions in Itta Bena led to a man being charged with aggravated assault.

LaBrodrick D. Baugh, 24, 6061 County Road 514, Apt. 8B, Itta Bena, allegedly pulled a gun on another man and threatened to kill him, Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said.

Lusco’s, pictured here, was featured during a “Dateline NBC” episode that aired Sunday. One of the owners of the Greenwood restaurant, Karen Pinkston, said it has never been a “private, whites-only restaurant,” as the program said. “Dateline” admitted the mistake and said it would correct it.

A “Dateline NBC” episode airing tonight highlights improved attitudes about race relations in Greenwood in the time since a civil-rights-era NBC documentary.

The program airs at 6 p.m. on NBC and is hosted by journalist Lester Holt.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
