State auditor: Ex-circuit clerk exceeded fee limit

The state auditor is reporting former Leflore County Circuit Clerk Trey Evans exceeded the fee cap for his office by more than $32,000 but has paid the money back.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering released his annual audit exceptions report today. It covers the 2012 fiscal year (July 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012).

Court denies man’s appeal in ’04 killing of his stepson

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
