High tech goes to school

The signature screech of the chalkboard is disappearing as Greenwood schools are installing an array of high-tech devices to engage modern students.

Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Wilson reported to the school board Tuesday that the district has installed 70 interactive whiteboards.

Board wants to settle lawsuit

Leflore County is sitting down with the operator of the county landfill in hopes of resolving a lawsuit.

The Board of Supervisors voted Monday to enter negotiations with Waste Connections involving a breach-of-contract suit the county filed in 2006. The county’s consulting attorneys, Phelps Dunbar, will also participate.

CLINTON — The J.Z. George boys cross country team won its first 2A state title Saturday, and senior LaTifa Swims captured her third individual girls championship.

The Jaguars defeated defending champion East Union 28-38 at the MHSAA state meet at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
