Group to reveal hanging probe results

A Memphis-based civil rights group is holding a press conference Tuesday to announce results from its investigation into a recent hanging.

Wendol Lee, president of Operation Help, said the press conference will be at 2 p.m. at Three Rivers Inn and Suites (formerly the Ramada Inn).

Jordan: Mom OK’d release of hanging photos

State Sen. David Jordan said he had permission from the mother of a hanging victim before doing anything with photographs of the scene.

Images of the body of 26-year-old Frederick Jermaine Carter have been circulating on the Internet, and at least one site credits Jordan with providing a photo.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
