Supervisors change payday back to first of the month

Leflore County is going back to paying employees on the first day of the month after the state auditor’s office said a recent change would create illegal spending.

The Board of Supervisors voted 3-1 Monday to rescind an order it had passed on Jan. 4 that changed payday to the last working day.

Evans won’t seek re-election

Longtime Leflore County Circuit Clerk Trey Evans is not seeking re-election, and a deputy clerk and a two-time former candidate for the position are vying to replace him.

But an economist said whether the new rules make much difference could hinge on whether the Mississippi House or Senate version passes.

Man gets 15 years for robbery

It was a case of a thug and his friends assaulting a working man and taking what was his, according to the assistant Leflore County district attorney.

On Thursday, a jury convicted Julius “J.J.” Federick of robbery, and Circuit Judge Richard Smith gave the 20-year-old the maximum sentence: 15 years.
