Woman: Arrest linked to lawsuit

The longtime girlfriend of an accused Greenwood drug dealer says she believes his arrest is connected to a police brutality lawsuit he has pending against the city.

Henry Kinds, 25, maintains in the federal lawsuit that three Greenwood police officers beat him up in April 2009.

Ex-detective arrested on drug charges

A former Greenwood police detective has been charged with five counts of prescription fraud allegedly committed while he still worked for the city.

The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department arrested Anthony “Tony” Browning, 41, 895 Old Hardy Road, Grenada, on Monday, and he was released on $5,000 bond.

Police drug raid nets 3

The Greenwood Police Department’s narcotics division made what Chief Henry Purnell calls a big drug bust Monday night.

Officers had been investigating the home at 609 Roosevelt Ave. for about two months since they received tips that it was being used as a drug house, Purnell said.
