Prep Track: J.Z. George boys, LC girls win region meets

The Leflore County girls and J.Z. George boys track teams captured first-place honors at their respective region meets held Thursday.
The Lady Tigers finished with 105 points in winning the Region 3-2A meet in Clarksdale. North Side was second with 84 points, and O’Bannon third with 48 points. Riverside was fourth with 15 points.

Carroll Academy teams place 2nd at district meet

The Carroll Academy girls and boys track teams both placed second at the MAIS junior high District 3-4A meet held Wednesday at Canton Academy.
The junior high Lady Rebels had 61 team points, which trailed Canton’s 122 points. Oak Hill was third with 35 points, and Winston came in fourth with 25 points.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
