Champions: Greenwood Gals claim 8U title

The Greenwood Gals are the Dizzy Dean 8U softball World Series champions.
The Gals went 5-1 overall in the four-day tournament in Southaven, defeating the Grenada All-Stars 10-4 in the deciding game Sunday afternoon to bring home the first 8U World Series title.

Gals perfect 2-0 to start Dizzy Dean World Series

The Greenwood Gals got off to a 2-0 start in the 8U softball bracket of the Dizzy Dean World Series Thursday in Southaven.
The Gals played their third game in the tournament Friday afternoon against a team from Bolivar, Tennessee.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
