Local youth baseball teams place 1st, 2nd at Grand Slam tourney

The Greenwood Bandits topped off their summer baseball schedule with a second-place showing at the Grand Slam Tournament in Starkville last weekend.
The Bandits went 3-1-1, falling 9-2 to Eupora in the championship game. Steele Bennett had two hits, and Aden Weems struck out three in a complete-game outing.

All-Stars win Dizzy Dean 6 North State tourney

One of the seven Greenwood all-star baseball and softball teams brought home first-place hardware from the numerous state tournaments, which were played over the last four days.
The Greenwood All-Stars claimed the state championship in the Mississippi Dizzy Dean 6 North baseball tournament, which was held in Batesville.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
