McDaniel back to teach game he loves

Brady McDaniel has returned home to Greenwood to teach the game of tennis and hopefully grow it into an even bigger sport.
McDaniel played at Pillow Academy from the sixth through 12th grade. He won five individual state championships in singles and was part of four team championships with the Mustangs.

SEC Media Days kick off Monday

The 2025 Southeastern Conference Football Kickoff Media Days will get the ball rolling Monday at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at Centennial Park and The College Football Hall of Fame.
This is the third time since 2018 Atlanta has hosted the SEC’s preseason media days. Dallas, Nashville and Atlanta have hosted the last three events.

78th Annual Greenwood Invitational: Country Club ready for tourney

The Greenwood Country Club and the Men’s Golf Association will be hosting the 78th annual Greenwood Invitational Tournament Friday through Sunday.
There are 143 golfers signed up to play in the three-day event, according to GCC golf pro John Pielemeier.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
