Bulldogs lose first game under Weaver; Elzy falls

The Cary Weaver era at Greenwood High School didn’t start the way Bulldog fans would have liked as Cleveland Central High School claimed a 34-27 win Friday night in Cleveland.
Weaver was named interim head coach earlier Friday, replacing veteran head coach Clinton Gatewood, who is now an assistant superintendent with the school district.

Carroll gets off to fast start in district

Carroll Academy brought down the hammer Friday night as the Rebels posted a 33-6 win over District 2-2A foe Greenville Christian School in Greenville.
The Rebels (2-1 overall, 1-0 in district) ran the ball 49 times for 252 yards and threw for 131 yards to finish with 383 yards of total offense.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
