Cross-country teams compete in Grenada

Pillow Academy’s cross-country team competed in the Kirk Academy Invitational Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada.
For the varsity girls, Emma Beckwith and Mary Laine Dyksterhouse competed in the 5,000-meter run. Beckwith was 14th in 23:15, and Dyksterhouse was 15th in 23:22.70.

Mustangs staying focused on adding another win

Calling last Friday night’s 35-28 overtime win over Bayou Academy a game to build on, Pillow Academy head coach TJ Davis will lead the Mustangs against Starkville Academy Friday for homecoming.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bill Davis Field.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
