Prep Players of the Week: McLellan, three others honored for play

Pillow Academy quarterback Tate McLellan helped steer the Mustangs to a 35-28 overtime win over Bayou Academy last week and has earned one of the Commonwealth’s Players of the Week honors.
McLellan was 5-of-10 passing for 111 yards and threw three touchdown passes. He also had 23 yards rushing and one TD run.

Prep Roundup: Leflore earns sweep of South Delta

The Leflore County girls volleyball team pulled off a doubleheader sweep of visiting South Delta Monday in Itta Bena.
The Lady Tigers (12-3 overall, 4-1 in Region 6-1A) won the first match 3-0 as they won the sets 25-15, 25-7 and 25-5. Leflore also won the second match 3-0, winning the sets 25-1, 25-10 and 25-4.

MVSU, FAMU game postponed to Nov. 29

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
