Prep Roundup: Volleyball ends for 3 schools

The prep volleyball seasons for Greenwood High, Amanda Elzy and Leflore County all came to an end last Saturday during their respective state tournament playoff matches.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Clarksdale High School in the Class 4A playoffs to finish their season at 12-5.

Prep Volleyball: Lady Jags go out in first round

The J.Z. George High School girls were eliminated from the Class 2A playoffs with a 3-0 loss to visiting Kemper County High School Friday.
Kemper County won the sets 25-8, 25-23 and 25-12.
J.Z. George ends its season at 9-8 in Walker Bailey’s first as head coach.

Leflore claws way to win at Coahoma County

Leflore County got out of Clarksdale with a hard-fought 22-12 win over the Red Panthers of Coahoma County High School Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers scored twice in the second period for a 14-0 lead at the break.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
