Delta Devils celebrating homecoming

Mississippi Valley State returns to Rice-Totten Stadium to take on the Oaklanders of Lincoln (California) for homecoming Saturday.
Lincoln is an independent travel team that has already played SWAC teams Alcorn State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Oaklanders are 0-5 on the season with one of their other losses coming to Idaho State (90-0).

Leflore County opened Region 4-1A play with an impressive 44-0 win over French Camp Academy Friday night in French Camp.
The Tigers led 22-0 after the first frame, 28-0 at the half and 36-0 after the third period.

Mustangs claim 28-16 win over Colts

Pillow Academy broke through in the win column with a 28-16 triumph over Lee Academy Friday night in Clarksdale.
The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Mustangs, who move to 3-6 overall.
Pillow has two games remaining in the regular season, both District 1-4A contests.

Greenwood at Kosciusko: Bulldogs seek 2-0 start in region

The Greenwood High School football team overcame adversity and pulled out a 15-6 win over Yazoo City last week to open Region 4-4A play at 1-0.
The Bulldogs will need to step up the intensity, as they battle the Whippets of Kosciusko High School at 7 p.m. Friday in Kosciusko.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
