The Lions of Delta Streets Academy will be at “home” Friday as they entertain DeSoto School at 7 p.m. at Pillow’s Bill Davis Field.
Delta Streets, which is 3-5 overall after last Friday’s 74-36 win over North Sunflower Academy, is looking to keep the momentum going against the Thunderbirds, who hail from West Helena, Arkansas.

Pillow at Lee Academy: Mustangs seeking 3rd win of year

Pillow Academy will venture to Clarksdale Friday night to face an old foe in the Lee Academy Colts.
The Mustangs (2-6 overall) are coming off a 28-7 loss to Heritage Academy in a District 1-4A contest. Lee beat Regents of Oxford 46-6 to move to 5-2.

Three of the four teams who came out on the winning side last Friday night had players who stood out and have earned the Commonwealth’s Players of the Week honor.
Carroll Academy used the 1-2 punch of Cohen Blaylock and Collin Hurst in taking down District 2-2A foe Indianola Academy 49-27 to move to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
