The J.Z. George Lady Jaguars turned up the heat on both ends of the floor, as they cruised to a 65-19 victory Thursday night in Winona.
J.Z. George (2-2) raced out to a 21-6 lead after the first period and led 38-14 at the half. The Lady Jags made it 58-19 after the third period.

Delta Devils hope to take down Hornets

The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University and the Hornets of Alabama State University collide Saturday in the Port City Classic in Mobile.
The Hornets are tied for first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s East Division with Jackson State at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
