Bulldogs notch lopsided win over Simmons

The Greenwood High School boys basketball team moved to 2-1 on the young season with a 71-30 victory over Simmons High School on Saturday.
The teams played in the Ken Ross/Diane Washington Cancer Classic in Grenada.

MHSAA All-Star Basketball: Holmes' Greer one of the coaches

Holmes County Central’s Luana Greer, a former standout player at Leflore County High School, has been chosen to serve as the head coach of the 5A/6A/7A girls North team for the all-star basketball games next year.
Greer will be assisted by her two assistants at Holmes, Retha Greer and Tremain Johnson.

Mississippi Valley State University first-year coach Terrell Buckley was around a few rivalries on the football field during his playing days in college and the National Football League.
For it to truly be called a rivalry, both teams need to trade off wins every so often.

Prep Basketball Roundup: Lady Bulldogs start campaign 2-0

The Greenwood High School girls are off to a 2-0 start to the 2025-2026 season as they knocked off Leflore County 55-24 Thursday night in Itta Bena.
GHS only led 6-4 after the first but pulled away over the next three quarters as it led 20-11 at the half and 36-18 after the third.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
