Prep Football: Hayes, Elzy hold on for key region victory

Jaquavius Hayes intercepted a 2-point conversion pass late in the fourth quarter to seal a 33-32 Amanda Elzy victory at Region 3-3A foe Yazoo County Friday night.
Elzy (5-2, 2-0) led 14-6 at the half and 21-18 after the third frame.

Pillow Academy battled tooth-and-nail to the very end against District 1-5A foe Magnolia Heights Friday night at Bill Davis Field.
The Chiefs were able to pull away in the fourth quarter to secure a 42-34 victory to improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
