Leflore boys eighth at State 2A meet

The Leflore County boys cross-country team finished eighth overall at the State 2A meet held Thursday at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
The Tigers 241 team points in the 12-team field. The top five from each team count in the point totals.

Panthers, Tigers secure playoff wins

The Amanda Elzy and Leflore County football teams opened the playoffs with convincing wins Friday night on the road.
The Panthers held off a late charge by the Blue Devils of Booneville for a 30-28 victory in the first round of the North 3A playoffs at Northeast Mississippi Community College’s field in Booneville.

Former players return home to coach

Carlisha Walker and Rosetta Washington have returned home for the 2023-2024 prep basketball seasons.
Walker, a former star player for the Lady Tigers from 2008-2011, is now the head girls coach at Leflore County High School. Washington, who played for the Lady Bulldogs from 1993-1997, is the new girls coach at Greenwood High School.

Rebs begin title hunt at Gordon Field

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
