Earnest Williams begins his fourth season at the helm of the Leflore County baseball program after leading the Tigers to the first round of the Class 2A playoffs in 2023.
The Tigers (6-9 overall, 3-7 in Region 2) were ousted by East Webster in the playoffs.

Amanda Elzy High School’s Jacoreyun Miller accomplished two feats during last week’s Region 3-3A Tournament at Ruleville. First, he was named the Region 3 Player of the Year for the 2023-2024 season, and secondly, he surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career. Miller is a 5-foot-5 junior point guard for the Panthers, who play host to Mantachie High School in the first round of the State 3A Tournament at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Greenwood High School and Amanda Elzy boys basketball teams are district tournament champions.
The Bulldogs and Panthers pulled off the feat Friday night to earn the top seed from their respective regions going into the state tournaments, which begin Tuesday for boys teams.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
