Prep Roundup: PA runners compete at overall cross-country meet

Pillow Academy sophomore Emma Beckwith came in 14th place at the MAIS Overall cross-country meet held Monday at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
Beckwith ran the 5K event in 23:04.08. Sophomore Mary Langdon Dyksterhouse was 21st in 24:01.78, and freshman Riley Coleman was 31st in 25:27.92.

Pillow Academy’s Martinez, three others honored

Four outstanding performances were turned in by Greenwood area players to earn the Commonwealth’s Players of the Week honor.
The first recipient is Pillow Academy’s Ruben Martinez. The senior running back ran for 214 yards and scored four touchdowns on 17 carries in the Mustangs’ season-ending 41-14 victory over Washington School.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
