Rebels hosting final regular-season game as Lions play in La.

Although this football season hasn’t gone the way Carroll Academy coach Bo Milton envisioned it going, the Rebels still have something to play for Friday when they entertain District 1-3A rival Winona Christian School.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Gordon Field. Eight seniors will be honored before the game.

Tigers earn homcoming rout, Elzy loses

Leflore County High School celebrated homecoming with a 30-14 victory over visiting Port Gibson High School Friday night at Marcellus Singleton Stadium in Itta Bena.
The Tigers, who move to 5-3 overall, led 21-0 after the first period and 30-0 at the half. The Blue Waves scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Prep Football Previews: Trifecta of homecoming games on Friday

Greenwood High School, Amanda Elzy and Leflore County are all celebrating homecoming with hopes of making those in attendance proud of their teams.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
