Bulldogs unable to tame Louisville

Greenwood High School knew it was facing one of the better Class 4A teams in the state in Louisville High School, and that it would take a perfect game to pull off the upset.
The Bulldogs couldn’t muster the magic as the visiting Wildcats claimed a 30-0 Region 3-4A win Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Bulldogs tasked with a potent Wildcat finale on Friday

Greenwood High School’s football team was able to celebrate for a short time after beating Caledonia High School last week to clinch a state playoff spot.
However, they had to come back to earth Sunday as they began preparations to face Louisville High School in a Region 3-4A contest at 7 p.m. Friday at Bulldog Stadium.

Tigers vying for 2nd place in region

Leflore County’s football team has been here before as it prepares to face nemesis Charleston High School in a key Region 3-2A contest Thursday.
The Tigers are 6-3 overall and 2-1 in region play. They have secured a spot in the Class 2A playoffs, which start Nov. 8. Charleston is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the district.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
