G’wood softball defeats Rosa Fort

The Greenwood High girls fast-pitch softball team claimed a 29-4 win over Rosa Fort High School Wednesday in Tunica.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-2) scored 11 runs in the first frame, 15 in the second and three in the third. Rosa Fort plated one run in the first and three in the third.

Pillow opens district play with a loss

Pillow Academy opened District 1-4A play Tuesday at Bayou Academy and dropped a 10-2 decision to the Colts in Cleveland.
Bayou plated four runs in the first inning and three each in the second and third. Pillow (9-7, 0-1) scored two runs in the fifth frame.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
