Pillow Academy’s girls basketball team moved to 11-5 overall and 3-0 in District 1-5A with a 57-28 victory at Heritage Academy Thursday night in Columbus.
The Lady Mustangs held leads of 14-6 after one, 26-12 at the half and 39-22 after the third period.

The Bulldogs of Greenwood High School were consistent for three quarters with their scoring en route to a 53-48 win over visiting Humphreys County Thursday night.
Greenwood (11-7 overall) led 16-7 after the first period, 32-15 at the half and 48-33 after the third quarter. The Cowboys held a slim 12-10 advantage in the fourth.

The Tigers of Leflore County High School won their fourth game in a row as they defeated McEvans High School 42-32 Tuesday night in Shaw.
“The floor and ball stayed slick all night,” said Leflore coach Michael Higgin. “We missed about 10 layups or close shots. It was a good win, and now we’ve got to get ready for a good team Thursday.”

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
