The Pillow Academy baseball team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-1 rain-shortened win over North Sunflower Academy Monday at PA’s Louis Coleman Field.

The Mustangs were up 6-1 when the game was called after four innings due to rain.

PA scored three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third.

JACKSON — Itta Bena turned out in full force for Leflore County’s first trip to the Big House in 36 years.

And the hundreds of red-clad fans were rewarded with one heck of a game — and more importantly, one that ended with Leflore’s first state tournament win since winning a Class A championship in 1973.

Ole Miss coach Matt Luke is putting emphasis on his young players to help them improve through 15 spring practice workouts.

As practice started last week, it’s also clear Luke will put his stamp on the program. He repeatedly referenced the need for improved “culture” among the Rebels at his pre-spring press conference Tuesday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.
