Tigers repping Itta Bena at the Big House Friday

CLINTON — Pillow Academy’s first trip to the MAIS Overall Tournament in eight years proved to be a brief one.

The PA Lady Mustangs lost 65-40 to Leake Academy here Tuesday at Mississippi College’s A.E. Wood Coliseum in the first round of the 12-team tournament.

Pillow girls headed back to Overall

Pillow Academy didn’t end its state championship drought, but the Lady Mustangs did keep their season alive.

Pillow defeated Simpson Academy 63-57 Saturday in the State AAAA Division II consolation game to punch its ticket to the MAIS Overall Tournament this week. The bracket was announced late Saturday night.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
