SWAC coaches like title game change

The big news coming out of SWAC media day last is that the SWAC Championship Game is officially back on, set for Dec. 1 here at Legion Field.

The league had announced plans to abandon the championship game, which was held in Birmingham until 2012 before moving to the NRG Stadium in Houston the past five years.

Lampley, Myrick tied for lead at GCC Invitational

Sunday’s final round of the 72nd annual Greenwood Country Club Invitational appears to be a two-horse race.

Josh Lampley of Gulfport and Joel Myrick of Hattiesburg are tied atop the leaderboard at 12-under par after two rounds. They are five shots clear of Justin Elliott of Hattiesburg going into the final 18 holes.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
