Rebels fall flat at LSU

Ole Miss surrendered 573 yards in its 45-16 loss at LSU on Saturday and have allowed over 486 yards in four of their five contests, including 629 to FCS opponent Southern Illinois.

LSU had 332 in the first half when they led 28-6, and Ole Miss was hit with 167 yards in penalties with dysfunction on both sides of the ball.

Unfortunately for Pillow Academy, the final two quarters belonged to Starkville Academy.

The Volunteers scored 17 unanswered points in the second half, including a 40-yard field goal as time expired, to escape Bill Davis Field with a 17-14 win to spoil homecoming for the Mustangs.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
