Wheeler late on lease payment for county land

A Greenwood physician who was convicted of crop fraud in federal court last year had not by this morning paid $23,000 in overdue rent for approximately 800 acres leased from Leflore County.

The Board of Supervisors voted 2-0 Monday to give Dr. Harold J. Wheeler of Greenwood 15 days to make the annual payment, which was due Jan. 15.
