Arson suspected in blaze at car lot

Greenwood Fire Marshal Terry Ricks says arson is a likely cause of a fire that destroyed Mims Auto Center on Main Street.

"At this point, we do suspect foul play was involved in it," he said this morning.

GAGE forum focuses on improving public education

A diverse new group of Leflore County business, political and community leaders has a common goal in mind - uniting the community to restore its vitality and remove the barriers that threaten its economic well-being.

The organization is calling itself the Greenwood-Leflore Advisory Group on Economics, or GAGE.

Illegal gaming machines found in trailer

The Leflore County Sheriff's Department, acting on an anonymous phone call, uncovered nine illegal gambling machines and a stash of money from a house trailer Thursday night.

Austin Ramsey, 40, of 420 E. McLaurin St., who told authorities he rents the trailer, was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal gaming device.
