Prep Football: Rebels, Cougars square off in opener; Lions at ‘home’

Carroll Academy opens its 2025 season, and first under Tommy Acy, at 7 p.m. Friday at Central Hinds Academy in Raymond.
The Rebels were just 1-9 overall a year ago under former coach Bo Milton. Carroll played at Park Place Christian Academy last Friday in Pearl in a controlled scrimmage game.

Prep Previews: Public school teams head to jamborees

Greenwood High, Amanda Elzy, Leflore County and J.Z. George are all a week away from kicking off their 2025 seasons, but each team will hit the field for scrimmage games Friday night.

Fastpitch Softball: Pillow, Carroll both suffer losses

The Pillow and Carroll Academy girls fastpitch softball teams both took one on the chin in games played Monday night.
-Pillow Academy: The Mustangs dropped a 7-0 District 1-4A contest to visiting Bayou Academy at Robertson Field.

Mississippi Valley State Football: Invite from coach turns into reality

Nina Schiks is living every girl’s dream — she’s a college football player.
Schiks is a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Boxneer, Netherlands, and is a member of the Mississippi Valley State University football team. She played on the Devilettes’ soccer and tennis teams as a freshman and will do so again this academic year.
