The Pillow Academy archery team placed second in a three-team shoot Thursday at J.Z. George High School.
The Mustangs finished with 2,620 points. Winona came in first with 2,732 points, and the host Jaguars finished with 2,498 points.
Emma Hodges was Pillow’s top shooter with 250 points. Luke Hyde was next with a 241, and Owen Hodges and Khyra Ware both shot a 227. Wyatt Saia shot 223, and Story Jacobson shot a 218. Samuel Pittman and Bailey Overstreet were next with a 217 apiece, and Sarah Rylie Harden shot a 213.
Hartley Kittle shot 209, and Wyatt Mims shot a 193. Carter Nunley rounded out the top 12 for Pillow with a 185.
For J.Z. George, Emma Holdiness had the top score with a 239. Richard Foster shot 232, and Abby Beech had a 227. Mason James and Mikhail Sanders both shot a 219, and Renea Bankston had a 218. Emily Follett shot a 209, and Tyler Duren shot 205. Charles Ansley shot a 202, and Jayden Stewart shot 191. Mackenzie Mims shot a 171, and Khadejah Davis shot a 166.
- GHS netters lose: The Greenwood High School tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Cleveland Central Thursday.
The lone win for the Bulldogs came in girls singles as Arlonda Henderson defeated Neely Anderson 6-0, 6-4.
In boys singles, Darrell Harris dropped an 8-0 pro set decision to Sylvester Cannon. In No. 1 boys doubles, Luisha Stanley and Terron Westerfield lost to Korben Brown and Christopher Love 6-0, 6-1. In No. 2 boys doubles, Gregory McLaurin and Trevor Russell dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Turner Yelverton and Christopher Love.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Kendall Smith and Davianna Brent lost to China Wilson and Marianne Powell 6-2, 6-3. In No. 2 girls doubles, Shandrea Brown and Stephany Lugo lost 8-0 in a pro set match to Leandria Scott and Jordyn Wilson.
In the mixed doubles match, David Kelly and Janiyah Henderson lost to Devin Harbin and Ashton Orr 6-0, 6-0.
Greenwood is slated to play Amanda Elzy on March 14.
- Lady Panthers continue to roll: The girls fast-pitch softball team walked their way to an 18-1 win over visiting Gentry Thursday at Whittington Park.
Mariyah Prayer got the win in the circle. She struck out two.
Elzy took advantage of numerous walks and stolen bases in improving to 3-0. Caleigh Phillips had a single.
The Lady Panthers host Leflore County on March 15.
- J.Z. George loses: The Lady Jaguars fast-pitch softball team dropped a 17-0 decision to French Camp Academy Thursday.
The Lady Jags did not have a hit in the contest. J.Z. George (0-4) played host to Independence Friday, and it hits the road Monday to visit Winona.
