Several storms are expected throughout Leflore County as the week comes to a close.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected late Friday night. They could bring winds of 5 to 10 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.
The chance of precipitation is 90% with new rainfall between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Joanne Culin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, said the storm front could also bring some dangerous conditions.
“We are looking at another round of potential severe weather late Friday into early Saturday,” she said. “And this can also bring some damaging winds and hail at the golf-ball size and tornadoes as well.”
The forecast calls for the possibility of thunderstorms to continue until 1 p.m. Saturday, then a chance of showers until 4 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
Culin said there was not a threat of flooding for the area.
“Latest river reading, as of this morning, was just about 24½ feet,” she said Wednesday. “It looks like, over the course of the next several days, it’ll rise a couple of feet, but it looks like for now as we forecast the stay below flood stage.”
Culin added the river level could rise to up to 27.5 feet by Saturday afternoon.
This weather predicted is the continuation of storms expected early Thursday. Wednesday morning, the weather service expected storms from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. with ¾ to 1 inch of new rainfall possible.
