School board terminates contract for HVAC project

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board voted unanimously Friday to terminate a contract on a construction project that was to be funded by a federal grant and voted to continue two other such projects.
The three projects were valued at a total of $1.9 million.

Johnson concerned about conditions at Threadgill

The condition of Threadgill Elementary School is of “great concern,” Mary Johnson, superintendent of the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District, told the school board Wednesday.
During a board work session, Johnson shared details of a formal walkthrough of the school that was conducted May 19.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
