Goal: Start construction on new high school next March

If all goes as planned, construction of Leflore County’s planned new high school will begin in March of next year.
A representative from the Jackson-based architecture firm handling the construction of the school gave the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board an updated timeline during the board’s meeting Tuesday.

School district holding food drive

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District is hosting a food drive to help those in need.
Canned food and non-perishable items will be accepted at the district’s schools until Wednesday.
All proceeds will be donated to the Ballas Family Community Kitchen.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
